Three Reasons Why Christians Should Pay Attention to the “Big Bang Theory”

There are a lot of things Christians disagree about; hence the hundreds of different denominations. But there is one topic that may not even be on a lot of Christians’ radar. I’m talking about the “Big Bang Theory” (no, not the TV show, the scientific theory).

If they have thought about the Big Bang at all, a lot of Christians may simply reject it out of hand, because they think it contradicts the biblical record of Creation in Genesis 1 and 2, but there are some very good reasons why Christians should embrace the Big Bang. The primary reason some Christians would reject the Big Bang is that they have been taught that Creation occurred 6,000-to-10,000 years ago during six days of one earth week, whereas the Big Bang proposes that the matter that makes up the universe, as well as the natural laws which govern it, all came into being in one blinding flash of light about 14 billion years ago.

Writers Conference Post Mortem

I returned from Oregon Christian Writers Conference a week ago and have had a little time to digest it, so I thought I would jot a few takeaways down here.

I have said it was like “drinking from a fire hose” in that it was wall-to-wall activity and learning. There was quite a bit to learn before the conference began, since this was my first time, and I almost missed a couple of deadlines for participation as a result, but while at the conference the schedule was VERY full, with a worship/devotional at nine and a full schedule through the evening keynotes and banquet with night-owl sessions after that.

Working On Screenplays Again

Several years ago I had a period of writing screenplays, before I started writing books. My decision to go to a writer’s conference caused me to dust off a couple of them to take in case anyone cared to see them. Here’s what I’m taking (both titles are “working titles” and both, when made into movies, would be just under two hours).

PREACHER

A young pastor in the Southern U.S. has a crisis of faith when his wife dies, leaving him with small children, and rebuilding his faith is complicated when he is drawn to an agnostic woman with tragedy in her own past.

It’s “God Bless the Broken Road” meets “The Case for Christ.”

This screenplay required the most updating. It needed updating for the sake of technology (smart phones have changed everything!), but also because my research for Collision Or Convergence gave me a lot of specific material relevant to the crisis of faith experienced by the main character.

SNARE OF THE DECEIVER

After he is shot, a drug dealer is reunited with a high school friend who tries to introduce him to Christ, but first they must both see past the veil to the spiritual battle swirling around them.

It’s “Pusher” meets “This Present Darkness.”

This is in the category of a supernatural fantasy, although most Christians believe in the reality of angels and demons, so they might not consider it fantasy at all. It is, however completely fictional.

There will be some people at the conference who work to get films and television movies made so we’ll see what happens.
