“You’ve Made Your Bed…”

The first presidential debate was this past Thursday. 51 million people watched. For some, it was a revelation. It revealed, not just how much worse President Biden’s cognitive decline has gotten, but also how much we had been lied to by his campaign, his administration and the “main-stream” media.

Just days before the debate, we were told in no uncertain terms that the videos we saw of Biden having to be guided back to his mark or off stages was right-wing “cheap fakes” and the president was as sharp as a tack in private. It was apparently only in public where he reminded everyone who has an older parent or grandparent of when they had to take away the car keys.

This article was suggested by my wife and I agreed it was a good idea. You see, Donald Trump was not my first choice for the Republican nomination for president in 2016 and he wasn’t in 2024, but it quickly became obvious that he would be the nominee during both primary seasons.

I was never a “Never Trumper” mind you; I just saw good options in other candidates. But now that he is the presumptive nominee, I am supporting him. Even after the efforts of the Democrats to sully him through impeachments, investigations and legal smears, I still support him; in fact the “lawfare” being waged against him makes me want to vote for him even more. I don’t think I’m alone in that. Here’s my reasoning.

There has been a lot of hand-wringing and hyperventilating about “threats to democracy” coming from the left side of the aisle in our country, ever since Trump supporters got upset on January 6, 2021. I still think they were egged on by Fed plants in the crowd and it might never have happened without them.

But as I’ve often said, Democrats are not self-aware and don’t know the meaning of the word “irony,” because ever since January 6, they have been doing everything in their power to threaten democracy. It was the most inept insurrection in history; no one even brought guns.

Where Do We Go From Here?

We are less than a year away from another presidential election in the US. Can it really be eight years ago that Donald Trump announced he was running for president and the left lost its collective mind?

And are we really going to have a rematch of the candidates from 2020?

Both parties seem deeply divided and both leading candidates have many strikes against them. If you know me, you know that I will vote for whomever the Republican candidate is, especially now, even if I have to hold my nose to do it. And I usually do (have to hold my nose).

They say (whoever “they” are) that most people vote against a candidate instead of FOR a candidate. That is true of me, since I have to believe that the Republican in any race is going to align more closely with my principles of freedom and free markets than any Democrat. That has never been more true than now. Economic freedom and individual empowerment are not high on the Democrats’ “to-do” list, with their anti-business stance and tendency to focus on victim groups, but Republican politicians often fail to protect our rights as well. So we usually have to vote for the lesser of two evils.

The American automakers, General Motors, Ford Motor Company and Chrysler (now owned by Stellantis) are all being struck at once (at selected plants) in a first-ever industry-wide strike.

President Joe Biden likes to be called the Union President. He claims to identify with lunchpail, blue-collar workers, who have traditionally been union members, at least in the Northeast.

So it shouldn’t be a stretch to say he is sympathetic to the plight of union members in the current United Auto Workers strike. But does that mean he’s to blame?

Just Stop LYING!

There has been some hand wringing in the media lately because, they say, confidence in our national institutions is eroding. I have an idea, if you want to restore confidence in institutions, just STOP LYING!

“Truth” is a word that has seemingly lost all meaning for some people, especially, it seems, those who wield power. The “truth” is no longer what is factual and provably true, it is simply the approved narrative.

Articles this week declared that California is moving forward with a total ban on the sale of gasoline powered vehicles by 2035. Everyone knows that California is a state on wheels, with around 2 million vehicle registrations each year, so that is a huge move that will have far-reaching effects. Technically it is new gasoline-powered vehicle sales that are banned. Used gas vehicles could still be sold and traded. Currently, only 12% of new cars sales in California are plug-in electric vehicles.

I See a Bad Moon A-Risin’

I guess I was in college the first time I heard Credence Clearwater Revival’s Apocalyptic-themed song “I See a Bad Moon Rising.” Good chance, since they recorded it in 1969 and I started college in 1970. The song is all about bad things happening that presage the end of the world.
