Four Movies in the Top Ten at Once

Movies That Christians and Conservatives Can Appreciate

I don’t know if Hell has frozen over or if pigs are flying, but right now something is happening that few would have thought possible: There are four movies in theaters at the same time that Christians and Conservatives can appreciate and they are in the top 10 at the box office.

For all my adult life I have been a booster of Christian Film, which many times has just not been good quality. Still I have been a booster because I support the motives behind them. I was so enthusiastic I learned to write screenplays. I spent much of my life in a denomination that taught it was a sin to go to movie theaters, so it’s kind of ironic that I am a booster of the art form.

But when I began to be a supporter of Christian Film there weren’t very many and they weren’t very good.

That has changed in a big way. During the week of September 13, 2024 (starting on Friday because that’s when new movies appear in theaters, four Christian or Conservative politically movies are in theaters at once AND they are in the top 10.

The film that’s been there the longest is “The Forge” the latest offering from the Kendrick brothers of Albany, Georgia. I haven’t seen it because the one Regal theater close to me doesn’t have it, but I’ve heard good things. It is currently number 9 after four weeks in theaters. It was number 6 last week.

The next longest is “Reagan,” which I did get to see (It was great. I know because the critics hated it!). It has been out for three weeks and sits at number 5 after falling from number 3 last week.

Two of the four hit theaters on Friday. “Am I Racist” is a documentary by Daily Wire commentator Matt Walsh and sits comfortably at number 3. It is not a Christian film, but Conservatives will like it and in Vin Diagrams there is often overlap between Christians and Conservatives. That film is not available on the Big Island of Hawaii, either.

The other film I saw last night: “God’s Not Dead: In God We Trust.” I enjoyed it very much. It’s very timely with the election coming up. It debuts at number 10.

These numbers are all the more amazing when you consider that these films are usually on half as many screens as the big Hollywood blockbusters.

Anyway I wasn’t sure this day would ever come, but it’s very gratifying to see.
