Today my wife had reason to visit with someone in an administrative position at a local hospital. This person shared a development in healthcare that I didn’t see coming, though I guess I should have.

Due to the rationing of care that conservatives predicted and is now happening, hospital security guards are now carrying guns.

Why?

Because the families of terminally ill patients are getting violent when they are told they can’t have endless tests to keep their loved ones alive. They are bringing guns to hospitals. And the hospital employee told my wife that it would only get worse as ObamaCare is completely implemented.

The hospital worker is retiring as soon as possible, saying “Americans have been spoiled and they are not going to be happy when they find out that things have changed.”

Apparently, when you have the best health care system in the world and then you vote for “Change”, you get an inferior healthcare system.

“Build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door.”

This is old, but still great, advice for anyone who wants to make and sell a product. Apparently President Obama, the Democrats in Congress and state government, and the bureaucrats at HHS have never heard it, if you judge from the promotional efforts being put forth for The Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare).

First there was the admonition, which some faithful O-bots tried to follow, to work ObamaCare into the conversation at Thanksgiving dinner. So far no instances of domestic disturbance have been directly attributed to ObamaCare discussions, but I’m sure there were some hot arguments during some family gatherings, since few things are more divisive than that law.

Then came the embarrassingly silly rap video produced to promote the California “Exchange”. When I saw it, I said, “That cannot possibly be a real promotion for ObamaCare.” But it was. Oh, my!

Now there’s the flannel pajama ad, in which we are told we can spend the cold winter nights signing up for ObamaCare. And of course the way the website has been working, it could take ALL winter to sign up.

Now Obama himself is once again encouraging families to chat up the law at their Christmas gatherings. Right.

All this promotion is just the tip of the iceberg, of course. More than a billion dollars is being spent to try to convince people to sign up, because “it’s better”, we’re told, than what we had before.

But if it really was better; if it really was “a better mousetrap”, it wouldn’t need so much promotion. People would be anxious to sign up. Instead there are an awful lot of people who swear they will never go near the buggy, unsecure HealthCare.Gov and will have to be forced to accept an ObamaCare plan.

No amount of promotion will change the fact that Americans were promised repeatedly that they would be able to keep their policies, their doctors and their hospitals. These promises were made, not just by Obama and officials of his administration, but by gung-ho congressmen and Senators, not to mention all the ill-concealed hype in the mainstream media. But it was all a lie. At least 5 million people, including myself, have gotten the letter saying their policy has been canceled, and that number promises to swell by a factor of 20. One hundred million policies canceled will be the vast majority of existing policies. So not only was “if you like you plan, you can keep your plan” a lie. It was the mother of all lies.

Then those who have actually been able to utilize HealthCare.Gov to sign up for insurance have been shocked (SHOCKED, I tell you!) that, not only is government healthcare not free (as too many naively expected), it costs MORE for less coverage! Higher premiums, higher deductibles, fewer doctors in the network: in what universe is that “better”?

Throw in the aspect of FORCE (the “mandate”) and you have a cocktail that is pretty bitter. No promotion, no music video, no arm-twisting over turkey drumsticks can overcome all the distasteful aspects of this “turkey” of a law.

Before it was passed, there were polls showing that more than 80% of people were satisfied with their current coverage. We may soon have that number DISSATISFIED with what they’ve been forced to accept: an inferior product at an impossible cost.

Maybe it’s time to scrap ObamaCare and truly build “a better mousetrap”.

Since President Obama has invoked the name of President George W. Bush many times, and the Left has been fond of saying “Bush Lied, People Died”, I feel like this would be a good time to make a comparison.

This is actually a teachable moment for the Left. This week it became clear that President Obama lied repeatedly concerning ObamaCare and whether Americans who like their insurance, doctor, etc. could keep them. He stated over and over that we could keep our insurance and our “plan, period”.

That, we now know, was a lie. He was not mistaken; he didn’t “misspeak” as the New York Times said. He knew at the time he said it that it was not true. That is the definition of a lie.

This is a teachable moment for the Left because they said “Bush Lied” about the presence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. The difference is, Bush believed that statement to be true. It was not a lie. We didn’t find the weapons of mass destruction, although we know Saddam had them because he used them on his own people. So, it was reasonable to accept the conclusion of the CIA and MI6 that he still had them.

Again, Bush believed he was telling the truth.

The same cannot be said for Obama. He knew when he said it more than a score of times on videotape, that it was not true.

That, Leftists, is how you know it is a lie.

So my insurance agent says my policy will end but she can’t give me a new one yet, because the regulations haven’t been written outlining what all must be covered.

Meanwhile my premium has doubled since Obama took office and who knows what the premium will be after all the new required coverages?

So my health insurance is being cancelled and replaced with a different policy that satisfies ObamaCare. The problem with my current policy is it doesn’t cover maternity or birth control pills, which Washington DC has decided I, as a 61year old man, must be insured for. Of course with the additional coverage for me and all 150,000,000 other men, I’m sure my new policy will be more “affordable”.

My insurance agent says its clear that the people who wrote ObamaCare don’t know anything about Insurance or Medicine. Or Biology, apparently.

President Obama recently said he wants government to be “smarter” in how it provides services to its citizens. Unfortunately, that’s now how he has governed. Below is a real chart showing how the ObamaCare Exchanges are supposed to work.

This is NOT a joke. In spite of the fact that it looks like a right-wing homage to Rube Goldberg, this is a real chart produced for the administration, ostensibly to make ObamaCare easier to understand.

After the president said what he said about “smarter” government, John Stossell of the Fox Business Network tweeted, “Excuse me @BarackObama #LessGov is #SmarterGov.”

Now THAT’S smart.
